From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as important members in House Halovar could assist the group enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
